An Easter Departure and Late Arrival
By Kristian Garrity
Today our senior high fellowshipers set off on our adventure! Many of us helped out with Easter worship this morning, then we gathered at the church at 12:45. Departure from the church was smooth and we all arrived in our separate vehicles, graciously driven by parents and advisers. The group spread out throughout Bradley and enjoyed our snack bags, while waiting for our 4:35 departure.
The flight on JetBlue airlines took about an hour longer than expected due to a weather detour. Fellowshipers enjoyed playing games, watching movies and sleeping during our 4 hour flight! When we arrived in San Juan, advisors went to get the rental cars while we unloaded our bags from luggage claim. We loaded up our cars and vans, packed in tight, and went to dinner! Every conceivable space was packed with luggage.
We all had great culinary experiences with delicious, authentic local foods for dinner. These meals included barbecue ribs, fried plantains, yuca, sweet potato, and whole chickens! After concluding our dinners, we drove 40 minutes out to the mission site arriving at midnight. We were all very impressed by the rainforest environment and settled in, to the sounds of frogs and insects. We are settling in for a solid night's sleep before starting some projects tomorrow. We were definitely walking the line between exhaustion and excitement as we unpacked. All in all, a great start to the trip!
